The engineer who never stopped writing
By profession I am an engineer and a professor. I have spent my career studying how things move: traffic through cities, signals through intersections, patterns through data. I love to uncover and explain the hidden order in what may look like chaos at first glance. It turns out that is also a fair description of writing a poem.
Poetry came first, long before the equations. I grew up in Arabic — it is the language of my heart, the one I read literature and poetry in — while English became the language of my profession, the one I read and write science in.
I am a poet, a songwriter, a composer, an oud player, and a singer. Some of these poems stayed on the page, and others would not sit still until I gave them a melody and a voice. Lately my two worlds have crossed paths: my research has taught me how transportation control can borrow from musical intuition, bringing the oud, the qanun, and the violin into new ways of thinking about movement and harmony.
This diwan is where all of it lives together: the written word and the sung word, the two languages, the professor, the engineer, and the poet.

المهندس الذي لم يتوقف عن الكتابة
أنا مهندسٌ وأستاذٌ جامعيٌّ بحكم المهنة. أمضيتُ مسيرتي المهنيّة أدرسُ كيف تتحرّك الأشياء: المرورُ في المدن، والإشاراتُ في التقاطعات، والأنماطُ في البيانات. أحبُّ أن أكتشفَ وأُوضِّحَ خفايا النظام فيما قد يبدو فوضى للوهلة الأولى. وقد تبيّن لي أنّ هذا وصفٌ صادقٌ لكتابة القصيدة أيضًا.
جاء الشعرُ أوّلًا، قبل المعادلات بزمنٍ طويل. نشأتُ في حضن العربيّة؛ فهي لغةُ القلب، وبها أقرأ الأدبَ والشعر، بينما صارت الإنجليزيّةُ لغةَ مهنتي، وبها أقرأ وأكتب البحوث العلميّة.
أنا شاعرٌ وكاتبُ أغانٍ وملحّنٌ وعازفُ عودٍ ومغنٍّ. بعضُ هذه القصائد بقي على الورق، وبعضُها أبى أن يهدأ حتى وهبتُه لحنًا وصوتًا. وقد تقاطع جانبا اهتماماتي مؤخرًا حين علّمتني أبحاثي كيف يمكن للتحكّم في النقل أن يستفيد من الحسّ الموسيقي، عبر توظيف العود والقانون والكمان في مقارباتٍ جديدة للتفكير والحركة والتناغم.
هذا الديوان هو الموضع الذي يجتمع فيه ذلك كلُّه: الكلمةُ المكتوبة والكلمةُ المغنّاة، واللغتان، والأستاذ والمهندس والشاعر.
فإن حرّك شيءٌ هنا قلبَك — قارئًا كنتَ أو موسيقيًّا أو ناشرًا أو منتجًا — فيسعدني أن أسمع منك.
